If your dog is over 15 lbs, all samples can be collected in a single visit. You should call your primary care veterinarian to schedule one appointment for your dog’s sample collection.
If your dog is under 15 lbs, sample collection must be spread over two visits. You should call your primary care veterinarian to schedule two appointments for your dog’s sample collection. The appointments should be scheduled for six weeks apart.
When you schedule your appointment(s), it’s important to communicate a few key points to your veterinary clinic:
- Mention to your veterinarian’s office that you are part of a scientific research study called the Dog Aging Project;
- That you need them to collect blood, urine, fecal and fur samples with the Sample Kit we provided you;
- The sample collection process will take approximately an additional 30 minutes;
- And samples will need to be returned to the Dog Aging Project the same day of the collection via FedEx (you can complete this step as well).
We strongly recommend you schedule the appointment in the morning on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to ensure weekday delivery to our lab.
