Body size and shape (also called morphology) vary widely among dogs. Other than humans, dogs are one of the most physically varied species on the planet. By taking measurements of specific parts of your dog’s body, we can accurately describe your dog’s shape.
We also want to understand the physical mobility of dogs who are different sizes and shapes. In several short activities, we will help you guide your dog through jogging, running, and climbing exercises. We will ask you to complete these mobility activities every year.
By comparing the performance of dogs over time, we will be better able to understand the physical decline that may occur during the aging process and how that might differ for dogs of various morphology (for example, small and stocky dogs versus tall and lean dogs).
